Meet the musical leaders tasked with bringing the concept of Tassie Spirit Pipe Band from paper to the circle! 

Pipe Major David Doyle 

Originally from Ireland, David began his piping career with the 2 time World Champions - New Ross & District Pipe Band based in Wexford, Ireland. From his early days of learning the chanter and marching in local parades, David's career within the band grew to become one of the senior pipers and stepping in on a number of occasions as acting pipe major for events and foreign trips. 

David has performed a number of tours with the world-renowned Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland.

He is the current Pipe Major (Musical Director) for the Irish contingent that travels to Festival Interceltique, Lorient, France, which takes place every August and is the world's biggest Celtic festival.

On a solo level, David has performed as a guest on albums, played for Presidents, Foreign Ambassadors, and dignitaries.

David has a strong bagpipe teaching background after coming through the New Ross & District Academy, which is one of the most reputable teaching bands for kids in Ireland.

David is also a member of the National Executive Council for the Irish Pipe Band Association and a committee member for St. Andrews Caledonian Pipe Band. 

After moving to Tasmania in early 2024, David has become a senior piper with St. Andrews Caledonian Pipe Band in Launceston and in 2025, he took on the role of Tutor for Scotch Oakburn College's Pipes & Drums program.  

Pipe Sergeant Fraser Bolton 

After moving to Tasmania from Queensland, Fraser took over the role as Pipe Major of Tasmania Police Pipe Band, where he leads the band at many parades, events, and performances along with local competitions.

Fraser is currently teaching pipes and drums alongside Tassie Spirit's Drum Sergeant to kids in the Hobart area. 

Fraser is an accomplished solo piper, performing in the premier solo grade across Australia and internationally. 

Fraser in his piping career to date, has tutored, played in, and led various pipe bands throughout. In 2013, Fraser won a World Amateur Solo Piping Championship in Grade 2.

He has also competed successfully, placing at different solo events in Scotland and throughout Australia.

Fraser has competed at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, placed at the European Pipe Band Championships, and previously won the New Zealand Pipe Band Championships in Grade 3.

Drum Sergeant Jessie Hutchison

Jessie has solid foundations in drumming, being taught by world champion Brett Staley and playing with the City of Melbourne Pipe Band. 

Jessie is not only a highly accomplished solo drummer, winning many state championships, but has also competed at the highest levels with multiple bands during her career to date. 

Jessie has had success performing with Canberra Burns Club as lead drummer, guesting overseas with the Grade 1 City of Blacktown, and competing at the World Championships on a number of occasions with Grade 1 Canterbury Caledonian.

Further to this, Jessie has shown great versatility in Munich as she guested with the Claymore Pipe Band and has even lifted the Grade 3B World title with Perth Metro in Glasgow.

Aside from competitive drumming, Jessie has been working in Tasmania in recent years with bands at different levels to help teach and coach their drum corps to develop their sound and technique.

Jessie currently works alongside Fraser to help bring piping and drumming to kids a help bring a new generation of players to the Tasmanian pipe band scene.
